The USSSA Labor Day Kick Off began play today in the 9 u division. Four teams Entered this one including the Desert Cats, Desert Dogs, Rattlers, and Spartans. The Desert Cats finished the day ahead of the pack with two straight wins, although both were just one run games. In game one they outlasted the Rattlers by a score of 12-11. In game two it did not get any easier as they beat the Desert Dogs by a score of 8-7. In other action the rattlers beat up on the Spartans 15-7. The Spartans came right back though as the battled the Desert Dogs to an 11-11 tie! Pool play will conclude tomorrow as the Desert Cats will put their 2-0 record on the line against the Spartans while the Desert Dogs will square off against the Rattlers. The playoffs will begin tomorrow at the conclusion of pool play with the Championship game taking place on Monday! Stay tuned to TBS Arizona for all of the details. In the 10U division the Stetson Hills Stealth are ahead of the pack right now as they finished he day with a 2-0 mark. In two games the Stealth outscored their opponents 27-0. The Anthem Firebirds are trying to keep pace as they also won both while outscoring their opponents 24-6! In other early action the BBC Commanders, Dirty Dozen, and Snipers Black all finished day one with a 1-1 mark. In the afternoon
In 11U AA action the AZ Thunder, Goodyear Gators, and Arizona Diablos are all at 2-0 after day one action. The Gators have completely dominated their opponents by a combined score of 29-1 while the Thunder have also handled business by scores of 6-4 and then 13-1! The Diablos have had two close ones winning both by scores of 6-4 and 10-7 respectively over first the Arizona A's and then the Desert Cats Red. The Rawlings lightning are sitting at 1-1 while the A's, and Desert Cats are winless thus far.
The Desert Cats Blue are off to a hot start as they posted a 2-0 mark on the day. The Cats first beat up on the Broncos 11-1 and then followed up that win with a 7-3 victory over the Az Grizzlies. The Grizzlies ended the day at 1-1 as they rebounded from the loss to the Desert Cats by beating the ABP Wizards by a score of 9-1. The Yuma Outlaws ended the day 1-1 as they beat the Tri City Venom who went 0-2 on the day and lost to the Rawlings Lightning.
There are three undefeated teams in this division, the Blackout, Desert Cubs, and the Yuma Outlaws all sit at 2-0. The Outlaws have turned some heads as they have yet to give up a run while scoring 25! The Grinders, Regulators, and Warriors Red all finished the day at 1-1 while three teams went winless in day one action.
Coach Decker had the Storm Black looking like the dominant team in 12U action today as they posted an impressive 2-0 mark. Their first game was a victory over the Desert Dawgs 13-2. This one was over early as the Storm jumped on the Dawgs with seven runs in the first. In game two, the Storm welcomed the TC Drillers from Colorado to town with a 12-2 drubbing. The Drillers then faced the Warriors Baseball Academy and again were defeated, this time 10-6. The Warriors followed that victory with another over the Desert Cats Blue by a score of 19-6! The Dawgs bounced back from a tough defeat early to tie the Surprise Thunder Navy 6-6. In the late action it was the Desert Cats Blue over the Surprise Thunder in a slugfest 20-9.
In the morning 13U division it is the AZ Extreme Gold who are out to the early lead with a 2-0 mark. The Extreme had two impressive wins today the first over a good Aces Beisol by a score of 7-3 and then they followed that up with a 16-0 drubbing of the Ahwatukee Devils. The Stetson Hills Stealth also took care of business today posting a 2-0 mark with a 9-1 win over the Devils followed by a 8-4 win over the Goodyear Gators. The Aces and Gators each split on the day while the Devils and the Heavy Hitters each went winless in day one action. In the late games it was the Venom and the ABP Wizards that finished the day 2-0. the Venom took care of the Grinders first by a score of 13-4 and then it was the AZ Extreme Black by a count of 9-1. Peaks Baseball finished the day 0-2 losing to the Storm Black and then the Grinders.
