The Meteors are making their presence known in Leesburg, FL. After finishing 2nd last weekend in Georgia, beating the EC Astros (TBS #7) in the semi-finals, but falling short to Chiefs Baseball in the finals. The Meteors traveled to Leesburg for the 12U USSSA State Championship. The Meteors dominated pool play beating Diamondbacks Baseball (TBS #3) 7 – 1, and the Oviedo Stixx 15 – 0.
Hit-N-Run Baseball out of Tarpen Springs, FL came into the tournament with a record of 3 wins 3 losses and one tie. They put together a line-up that ended up finishing second in pool play. Hit-N-Run defeated M-Pact Baseball, 5 – 4, and beat the Florida Fire 10 – 3. The Florida Fire is not the same team as the one ranked in the top ten throughout last year. This season’s team is without 5 players and the coaching staff that built the original Florida Fire team. The new Fire team has 6 wins 4 losses in 3 USSSA tournaments.
Championship day will have some competitive match ups early. Look for the Meteors, M-Pact Baseball and the Diamondbacks to make some noise and a run for the State ‘Ship. But don’t forget that any of these teams has the talent to win on any given day. In particular, watch out for a couple of sleepers like Rowdy Ball and Hit-N-Run as they meet up in an early elimination game. The winner could have the momentum to go far.
