10U Elite 32 World Series - Houston Wranglers verse Carolina Grasshoppers Print E-mail

Disney’s Wide World of Sports, FL   Coach Megarity has racked up a lot of frequent flyer miles in the last few weeks. They were in Orlando and played 10 games in the AAU nationals two weeks ago. They finished second in that event. They flew home on a Sunday and caught a plane BACK to Orlando to compete in this weeks Elite 32.

“We still haven’t played our best ball yet, I think we are still feeling the effects of flying”, said coach Megarity.

The coach might not be satisfied, but he can’t argue with the results. The Wranglers won their opening round elimination game with a hard fought 9-7 win over Carolina Grasshoppers.

Will Mercer went the distance for the Wranglers but was in a tough jam in the bottom of the sixth. The leadoff man in the sixth started the inning with a single and then the next batter reached on an error by the third baseman. Will dug in and retired the next three batters to send the Wranglers to the next round.

The next round will not be easy as they will face the Charlotte Megastars on Wednesday.

Owen Meaney was 3-3 with a double and two RBI and Peter Geib was 2-3 with two RBI to lead the Wranglers offense.
