9U Elite World Series - TBS #4 Cincy Flames (OH) vs. #8 Strike Force (TX)

The 9U Disney Elite featured the #4 ranked Cincy Flames out of Ohio against the #8 ranked Strike Force out of Texas. The Strike forced earned a 17-7 victory and a spot in the final four but it was far from easy.

The Strike Force scored 3 in the top of the first, with two runs scoring on a Carlos Contreras single. The Flames answered in their half of the first with RBI singles by Cal Conley and Nick Northcut.

The key play in the game took place in the home half of the fourth inning with the Flames trailing 5-4, when the Flames put runners at second and third with no outs and failed to score. The first batter grounded out to short and then with one out, the next Flames batter hit a fly ball to center fielder Jerry Granillo who caught the ball and threw a perfect strike to the plate to nail the runner for an inning ending double play.

In the top of the fifth, Ruben Alcala hit bases loaded triple in the right field gap to push the gap to 10-4 and the Strike Force never looked back.

Carlos Contreras led the Strike Force by going 4-4 and Andrew Garcia went three strong innings to notch the victory. Coach Travis Beck of the Flames said “In a tournament like this, you cannot lose your first bracket game. We had to win five straight games in the loser’s bracket just to get to this point. We had no pitching left.”

The Strike Force will now play the TBS #6 ranked MSA Black out of Michigan.
