9U- Triple Crown Summer Nationals (SC)- Virginia Thunder vs. Carolina Grasshoppers

Myrtle Beach, SC. The Virginia Thunder jumped out to an early lead, but the Carolina Grasshoppers weathered an hour long rain delay to defeat the Thunder 6-4 Friday, July 31st in the 9U Triple Crown Summer Nationals. Cody Davis struck out three and earned the win for the Grasshoppers, and Seth Caddell pitched the fifth and sixth to earn the save. Caddell also had three strikeouts on the day.

The Thunder started off hot, taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Justin Starke capped the inning with a 2-RBI single, but was thrown out at the plate on a Justin Parker liner to centerfield. Catcher Cody Davis made a great play to hold on the ball and tag Starke out.

But the Grasshoppers weren�t going to go away easily, and they immediately bounced back in the bottom of the first. Cody Davis and Seth Caddell hit back-to-back RBI singles, and Brandon Bledsoe crushed an RBI double to right field before scoring on a wild throw to tie the ballgame 4-4.

In the second the Grasshoppers took a 5-4 lead off an Isaiah Finnerty RBI double, but their rally would end on a well-turned double play by Thunder pitcher Tyler Bailey. The Grasshoppers added another run in the third on a Brandon Bledsoe RBI single to make it 6-4 before an hour long rain delay paused the Grasshopper momentum.

But the rain delay would prove irrelevant, as Grasshopper pitcher Seth Caddell shut down the Thunder offense for two innings, giving up no runs and securing the Grasshopper victory, 6-4.
