9U Florida Pokers Take FPBL Championship Print E-mail

Florida Pokers Roll To Florida Premier 9U Major Championship.

The Coral Springs based 9U Florida Pokers Travel Baseball Organization has added the Florida Premier Baseball League Championship to its’ trophy case by beating The Wellington Warriors 6-5 and then The West Pines Cobras 9-7 en route to their title Saturday May 30th at Pembroke Shores Park in Miramar, Fla.

After winning the USSSA Super NIT in Ft. Pierce on May 17th, the Pokers backed up their excellent play by knocking off the #2 seeded Warriors behind the outstanding pitching of Jarrett Hall, Jake Hershkowitz and Christian Scott, plus some key defensive plays and timely hitting by Earl Semper, Shane Magrann and Robert Joy. The Pokers then defeated the #4 seeded Cobras behind the steady pitching of Luke Reidy and Caleb Roberts and more outstanding defensive gems from Riley Allison in left field.

This was The Pokers first year in the Florida Premier League. “We felt like we let the regular season title slip away by going 16-6 with 4 of the losses coming by just 1 run and the other 2 losses by 2 runs” said coach Lenny Roberts. “We were on a mission to make a statement in the playoffs and we did. Our kids stepped it up again and came through in the clutch”, Roberts added.

The Back to Back Tournament Titles have the Florida Pokers quickly climbing the National 9U rankings. Before the FPBL Championship the Pokers were ranked among the top 30 (9U) baseball programs in America based upon the rankings from TravelBallSelect.com, who uses a number of different formulas to arrive at their rankings.

With a month to go before the Pokers head to the Florida Elite Eight in Altamonte Springs, the Pokers are on a roll posting a 27-5 record over their past 32 games. Among those wins are victories against some of the best teams in all of South Florida including: Team Combat, Wellington Purple, Wellington Gold, PPO Bengals, Team Miami and the West Pines Cobras. “Our Record of 37-13 is not a true indication of how good we are since we took the fall off and still made the difficult transition to the 9U rules from the more basic 8U kid pitch rules. We began the year 10-8 and searching for an identity, but we have found it” coach Roberts added.

The Pokers have now reached 4 consecutive tournament championship games, winning the last 2. “We have a very tough bunch of kids that know how to play the game and compete at the highest level. “ For more information about The Florida Pokers visit http://www.floridapokersbaseballclub.com/ or call 954-817-1008.
