2009 9U Bay Area Titans (TX) Print E-mail

The Bay Area Titans 9U are based out of League City, a suburb 20 miles south of Houston, Texas.  The Titans are a fairly new team and as recent as the fall of 2008 competed in their first travel game. The team consists of 12 players from League City, Friendswood, Pearland and Alvin.  Unlike a lot of other “select” or “travel” teams, all but one of the Titans is involved in Little League, so practicing and scheduling tournaments can sometimes be a challenge. However, they felt the tradeoff was worth it in order to combine the selected players on one team. In the selection process, the manager and coaches looked at more than just baseball ability when selecting players to add to the roster. They wanted athletic players but they wanted players that had a great attitude and not afraid to work. While the team is still a work in progress, the Bay Area Titans 9U are a team full of athletic, hardnosed ballplayers. The team is known as a “scrappy” team and that suits them just fine.

When putting this team together, the goal was to compete and hold their own against other travel teams in their area. Not only has that goal been achieved, it has been shattered. The Titans already have four tournament championships and a “promotion” from Select/AA to Elite/Major. The players on the team are Dylan McClellan, Nicholas Riviera, Tavo Valdes, Paul Kindervater, Dalin Stanton, Michael May, Michael Gillaspia, Mason Conerly, Nicholas Smith, Matthew Serrano, Logan Kuecker and Brandon Rodriguez. The success has been a result of the sum of all parts and not just one or two stars. They have great chemistry and understand what it takes to be part of a team.

The BA Titans play primarily in Nations Baseball sanctioned tournaments and are planning on playing in both the Texas State tournament as well as the Nations World Series in Houston.  The Titans have played some of Houston’s top teams including the Legends, Bay Area Banditos White and the Lamar Dynasty. They also have practiced with and often scrimmage Houston’s 9U top dog, Banditos Black South 9U (formerly Bay Area Banditos Black). Houston is a hotbed of great teams in the 9U division and the BA Titans are now another team to add to the list.

TBS would like to wish the Titans luck with their 09 campaign.
