The Winning Tradition Continues

TravelBallSelect is excited to kickoff the 2008/2009 year with the addition of the 9U age group. And what is more fitting than starting with the traditionally rich program of the Banditos Baseball Club out of Houston, TX. The Banditos Black 9U enter the Fall 2008 season loaded with high expectations and the talent to make a run at a third consecutive national championship. As the 7U and 8U team, this group was one of the most successful teams in the Banditos Baseball Club of Texas.

This group won the USSSA World Series “Back to Back” in Sulphur, LA in 2007 and 2008, including going undefeated to win both championships. In the past three seasons, this team has a 124-10 record, won 19 qualifier and NIT tournaments, 3 Super NIT Championships, and 2 National Championships. In addition, the boys claimed the national USSSA point championship in both years. The core of this team has played together the last 2 years.

The boys have trained in the Bandito organization at an early age and have benefited from the instruction of their pro coaches Ray and Robert DeLeon. Playing in the highly competitive Houston area, this group has developed a national reputation for playing quality baseball. Despite the young age, the Banditos traveled outside of Texas to compete against other top national teams. With even more diverse competition at 9U, the Banditos look to travel outside the state to play the best national competition. The Banditos will be under the direction this fall of Coach Steve Hoffart and Rob Jessen.

The offense will be led by Shane Jessen (49 homeruns last season), Joseph Vazquez, and new additions Matthew Charles and Logan Swann. A hallmark of the past years’ national championships has been defense. The defensive anchors are Preston Hoffart and Chance Coker. Zayne Watson and lefty Steven Beard could prove to be huge bright spots in the pitching rotation. Cole Rollins will play a key role behind the plate and Ryan Solberg brings clutch hitting and ability to play multiple positions. Building on the success of the past 2 years, this team thrives on competition and looks to develop into one of the top 9U teams in the country.
