14U- MS Super NIT- Saturday Pool Play Results Print E-mail

By Pete Wickham

Southaven, MS. In the 14U category, the eighth-ranked Indiana Prospects roared in from Indianapolis and took the top seed by edging the Germantown Sox 3-2 and ripping Team Collierville 15-0.

Two TBS honorable mention picks, the Memphis Tigers and Bullet Baseball, won both their pool games. The Tigers are seeded fifth while the Louisiana Bullet squad is eighth. The highly-regarded Louisiana Tigers, with four key players back home in Baton Rouge graduating from middle school, lost a 9-1 decision to the BL Bombers in pool play. That left the Tigers seeded 12th and the Birmingham-based Bombers in the fourth spot.

Two unranked teams made a strong case to change that status in the early round of this tournament. The Jackson Coyotes beat Gameday Athletics 5-1 and the Bolton Wildcats 10-2 to earn the second seed. Right behind are the Sandy Plains (Ga.) Wildcats, who ripped Bolton 16-1 and Gameday Athletics 6-3. The other top seeds are No. 6 Jackhammer Baseball at and the North Alabama Giants at No. 7.

Teams wrapped up first-round bracket play Saturday night. Quarterfinals begin Sunday morning at 9, with 14 semifinals at 1:30 and finals at 4. The 13 semifinals start at 2 p.m. with finals at 4:30 p.m. Two berths to the USSSA Elite 32 tournament in Orlando this July will be awarded in each age category.
