14U- Elite 32 World Series- #1 East Cobb Astros vs. #18 SWFL Yarddawgs Print E-mail

Kissimmee, FL   In the afternoon contest, it was a battle between those feisty Yarddawgs of Southwest Florida and the top ranked and home team East Cobb Astros of Georgia.

Not much action until the bottom of the second when starting pitcher and TravelBallSelect’s Player to Watch candidate #27 Tyler Graham helped himself out with a single through the middle. Then courteous runner, #11 Nick High, stole second and that was followed up by single by #42 Joe Marlow. He too stole second to put runners on second and third. Then #3 Brandon Whiteford would double to give the Astros and early two run lead. Then they would tack on another run from there when Jarret Freeland singled to make it three to zero.

The Astros would add another run in the fifth as #4 Zach Bailey led off the inning with a triple. TBS Player to Watch # 25 Travis Demerit would knock him in with a sac fly to make it four to zero.

After cruising through five inning of no hit baseball, Tyler Graham gave up his first hit with two outs in the sixth. But the ‘Dawgs would get nothing more.

In the seventh inning starting pitcher Tyler Graham was working on a complete game shutout but there was no quit in the Yarddawgs and they wouldn't go down without fighting.  They proceeded to load the bases by working a couple of walks before #3 Tyler Atwell would knock in two runs to make it four to two. Astros Manager Dave Roberts decided to make the call to the bullpen and bring in big Joe Marlow to get the last out, which he did.

The Astros advance on to the semi-finals and the Yarddawgs make the trek home knowing they played some competitive baseball but just didn’t have enough this time to conquer the top team in the nation.
