14U Elite World Series – Day 5
In an elimination game, the Heat from Virginia (a combination of two experience Elite World Series teams, the Hanover Heat and the RBI Redwings) took on the Tigers from Memphis, TN at the prestigious Cracker Jack Field, home of the Major League Atlanta Braves during Spring Training. It was a ‘cracker-jack’ of a game as the losing team was going home and more than likely wrapping up their baseball season.
With the score 4-1 in favor of the Heat in the top of the sixth, it appeared that a Memphis rally might save the day for the Tigers as bases were loaded and no one was out. But the experience Heat players did not panic. The pitcher induced two ground balls. The first was almost a double play and the second grounder produced the inning ending double play. This prevented the “big inning” and the Tigers could only get one run.
The missed opportunity had an after taste as the Tigers took the field and surrendered three runs mainly on walks and miscues by the infielders.
The Heat team gets another day of Florida heat as they advance on through the elimination bracket of their pool.
