14U- CA USSSA State Championship- #10 All-American Sports Academy (CA) vs. San Diego Stars Print E-mail

All American Sorts Academy were the # 2 Seed. San Diego Stars were #3 seed coming out of pool play. Each team knowing that the winning team will advance to play in the State Championship Game.

Both pitchers were dominating. All American Coach Augie Telly called time out in the top of the Seven with the score still tied at 0-0 to make a pitching change. Ivan Sanches #20 left the game with only allowing 3 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Mac Sturt #27 took over on the hill with a runner on 1st no outs. Sturt got Stars hitter Michel Martin #23 to ground out into a double play. It was not over yet Colin Winters #42 hit a 2 out double. With the Stars looking to get a run, Sturt struck out Anthony Boyd #8 for the 3rd out.

Stars Pitcher Anthony Boyd #8 had only allowed two hits all game going in to the bottom of 7th. A.J Banueos #22 lead off with single. Tony Muniz #17 followed with a bunt single. All American had runners in scoring position for the first time since the 4th inning. With no outs runners on 1st and 2nd, Stars corners were playing up expecting the bunt, Ivan Sancez #20 bunted towards 1st. Stars 1st baseman fielded the ground ball coming up throwing to 3rd a bad throw allowed the runner to be safe. With bases loaded no outs wining Run at 3rd. Hunter Mercado #42, singled up the middle to score A.J for the only run of the game.

When Coach Dennis Martin of San Diego Stars was asked about the game he said, "We have to be able to field a bunt to win games and have better approach at the plate."
