The 2009 14U Battle In The South was one for the record books, as the East Cobb Astros became the first two-time champions in tournament history. On Saturday in the play-in games, the Panthers baseball Club beat the East Cobb Titans 11-4, Kentucky Baseball Club roughed up the New England Ruffnecks 4-1, the Grassland Bulldogs blanked Team Anderson 5-0, Legends Baseball beat the Sandy Plains Wildcats 7-1.
The Tidewater Drillers put away the Germantown Sox 3-2, the Mount Juliet Bearcats fought past the Central Florida Red Raiders 9-8, Brooklawn Baseball beat the Hampshire Heat 10-2, and the Ohio Heat beat the Ohio Chargers 11-4. In the Roung of 16, the East Cobb Astros beat the Panthers Baseball Club 11-0, the Knoxville Stars knocked off Kentucky Baseball Club 6-1, Team Alabama got past the Grassland Bulldogs 5-3, Legends baseball beat the D-BAT Mustangs Black squad 9-4, the Indiana Prospects disposed of the Tidewater Drillers 11-3, the Florida Mustangs galloped past the Mount Juliet Bearcats 9-4, the Cincy Flames out-lasted Broowlawn Baseball 16-10, and the NVTBL Stars beat the Ohio Heat 7-6.
In the quarter-finals, the Astros beat the Knoxville Stars 10-2, Team Alabama edged out Legends Baseball 2-1, the Indiana Prospects corralled the Florida Mustangs 8-2, and the NVTBL Stars put out the Cincy Flames 12-4. In Sunday's semi-final action, the NVTBL Stars soared past the Indiana Prospects 12-2, and the East Cobb Astros came from behind in their game with Team Alabama to score a 7-6 win. And in the 14U Battle In The South Finals, it was the East Cobb Astros beating the NVTBL Stars 9-1 to win the tournament title.
