The Ohio Chargers certainly started off their Battle In The South Tournament run with a bang, grabbing an impressive 14-3 victory over the TBS #6 ranked Michigan Crush. Ohio Chargers manager Chris Ramsey had this to say about the victory: "We had a huge complete game from Mitchell Stephens today and we kept a good-hitting team down to three runs. Our offense stepped it up today with some good hits and the definitely helped us take the win and get a leg-up in our tournament pool.".
The Chargers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning only for Michigan to strike back with three of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead with two of those runs coming off of a K.J. Neibauer home run.
The turning point of the game would come in the top of the second when the Chargers charged up their offensive fire-power and drove in six runs to take an 8-3 lead. The game would stay at 8-3 until the top of the seventh inning when the Chargers added six insurance runs to put the exclamation point on their 14-3 victory with half of those runs crossing the plate on an inside-the-park home run by Tyler Flaherty.
The Chargers were led at the plate by Mitchell Stephens (3-5, 1 2B), Jake Chetok (3-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI's), Tyler Flaherty (2-5, 1 inside-the-park HR, 4 RBI's), and Chase Longwell (2-5, 1 2B, 2
RBI's). Stephens pitched the distance, giving up three runs and striking out five batters. The Michigan Crush was led at the plate by Tyler Castaglione (3-4, 1 3B) and K.J. Neibauer (2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI's).
Neibauer was tallied with the loss, going six innings and giving up eight runs. The Michigan Crush coaches were unavailable for comment.
