14U- Battle in the South (TN) #4 Team Alabama (AL) vs. #17 Sandy Plains Wildcats (GA) Print E-mail

Overcoming an early 3-2 deficit, TBS #4 ranked Team Alabama rolled to an 11-6 over the TBS #17 ranked Sandy Plains Wildcats in tournament pool play on Thursday morning. Team Alabama manager Rusty Riley had this to say about his team's victory: "We came out and played well early on and we were batting and pitching well. But in the middle of the game, we didn't keep our intensity and kind of let off the gas a bit when we probably should have kept the intensity."

Team Alabama started off the game taking a 2-0 lead, but in the bottom of the second, Sandy Plains took a 3-2 advantage. Team Alabama, however, was undeterred and took a 5-4 lead at the end of the third inning, thanks in part, to a two-run home run by TBS Featured Player Victor Cole. The turning point of the game was the fourth inning where Team Alabama outscored Sandy Plains 5-1 to take a 10-5 advantage, with four of the five runs coming off of a Brandon Billick grand slam.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, it was Sandy Plains cutting the deficit to 10-6. But in the top of the sixth inning, Victor Cole was at it again, knocking a solo shot out of the park to give Team Alabama the 11-6 win.

Team Alabama was led at the plate by Daniel Robert (2-3, 2 2B, 1 RBI), Victor Cole (2-3, 2 HR's, 3 RBI's), and Brandon Billick (2-3, 1 HR, 4 RBI's). Tripp Hobbs was credited with the win, going 3 innings and striking out two batters while giving up three hits. Cole got the save, pitching one inning and striking out two batters. Sandy Plains was led at the plate by Travis Wildermuth (2-3, 1 2B) and Kevin Anderson (2-3). Four different pitchers contributed to the Sandy Plains losing effort. The Sandy Plains coaches were unavailable for comment.
