The 14U Palm Beach Rockets are 2009 SlumpBuster Champions

Session 3, June 18 through June 21, 2009

June 21, 2009 – Council Bluffs, Iowa – Twenty teams from across the USA came to challenge in Session 3 of Triple Crown’s annual SlumpBuster Championships that are held in concurrence with the College World Series.

The Session 3 champions are the Rockets from Palm Beach, Florida. They earned this crown after coming out of pool play with only the 15th seed.

This means that the Rockets had to win 5 straight games in bracket play rounds to earn the title. They started their title march with a 6-2 win over the #18 seeded Lamar Blue Stars from Richmond, Texas. Next, they moved past the Travelers of Cary, Illinois by a score of 8-5 in the quarter finals. From there, the Rockets sent the RoughRiders on a bumpy ride home to Sugarland, Texas with an 11-5 win to advance into the semi-finals. In this game, the Rockets edged past the Bingham Dodgers by a tight 4-1 margin to earn the right to play the #13 seed Big Stix Gamers of Hampton, Georgia in the finals.

The Gamers had edged past the #20 seed Dragons from College Station, Texas by a score of 4-2 before moving on to a 6-0 win over the #4 seed Omaha Gladiators. In the semi-finals, the Gamers faced the #8 seeded South Shore Seadogs from Wapole, MA who had just sent the #1 seed Minnesota Rivers Dawgs paddling up the river by a whopping 13-2 margin. But the Seadogs lost their touch as they fell to the Big Stix Gamers by a score of 7-4.

In the finals, the Gamers bats couldn't keep up with the thrust of the Rocket's who managed to blast 2 runs across home plate while completely shutting down the bats of the Big Stix Gamers to win the championship.
