Session 2 SlumpBuster Championships, June 15 through June 17, 2009

June 17, 2009 – Council Bluffs, Iowa – Twenty teams from across the USA came to challenge in Session 2 of Triple Crown’s annual SlumpBuster Championships that are held in concurrence with the College World Series. This event has become one of the top tournament venues in the country.

In the 14U age bracket, the Session 2 champions were the BLBA Black from Hewitt, Texas. This marks the 2nd Texas team in two weeks to win this event as the GC Outlaws from Magnolia, Texas won the Session 1 championship. The Black finished pool play as the #1 seed with a 3-0 record while outscoring their opponents 37-6. They opened bracket play with explosive play, starting with a 21-3 stomping of the Georgia Titans, followed by a 22-0 shutout of the Oakland Whitecaps moving into the finals to face the Federal Way Knights.

The Knights had earned the #2 seed in pool play going 3-0 while outscoring their opponents 36-9. The Knights opened bracket play with an 14-0 shutout win over Minnetonka, then edged past the Jackson Bears of Canton, Ohio by a score of 5-4 earning their spot in the Championship game.

In the finals, the Knights proved to be no match from the tough BLBA Black Texans who wasted no time shutting down the Knights with an 8-0 win to earn the Session 2 Championship.
