June 6, 2009 – The opening day of the June Sizzler Beast of the East Tournament has now been completed with 24 teams from across the Southeast facing off in 3 different competition levels:

14U Select – In this group, 12 teams from across the Carolinas faced off in pool play competition on Saturday.  In Pool A, the Piedmont Panthers and the Carolina Rays each went 2-0 in pool play earning each team a seed spot in Sunday’s bracket play.  The Panthers started with a 14-0 stomping of Energy Baseball and followed with an equally 16-1 dominate win over the Carolina Cobras.

In Pool B, the SC Storm earned their seeding by edging past the Carolina Bulldogs 3-1, and then following with a 7-0 win over the NC Rivercats.

14U Elite – Seven Elite teams faced off at Ashbrook and North Gaston High School stadiums on Saturday.  Of these, only the  Roanoak Badgers emerged from pool play with a perfect 2-0 record.  The Badgers opened with a 10-1 romp over the Alexander Cougars and followed this performance with a 7-2 win over the Hickory Hurricanes.

14U Premier – Five teams faced off in the Premier class of competition for this years’ Beast of the East tournament held at Nation Ford High School.  Of these, two teams emerged with unblemished records in pool play; the Carolina Stallions and the Bases Loaded BoSox.

The Stallions opened play by with an impressive 8-1 win over Kelley Baseball, followed by close 3-2 win over the Stealth Seahawks.  The Basesloaded BoSox beat the Charlotte Bearcats 8-3 and then followed with an impressive 7-2 win over the Seahawks.  These two teams move into bracket play and are considered favorites to win this event.
