14U East Cobb Braves Print E-mail

Operating in a broad shadow cast by the perennial favorite East Cobb Astros and upstart contender East Cobb Titans, the 14U East Cobb Braves have quietly demonstrated the depth and breadth of the prestigious East Cobb Baseball program in Marietta, GA, over the past 5 seasons.

Taking a core group of players and adding significant talent each year, the Braves are on track this season to make their mark on the 14U division. Significant additions this season include Jordan Brown (South Forsyth War Eagles), Nathaniel Maggio (Wills Park Wild Dogs), Stephen Wrenn & Patrick Schultz (Roswell Hornets), CJ Brazil (St. Francis), Brian Kehner (Sandy Plains Wildcats), and Hunter Swilling (Smiths Station, AL).

The Braves have already competed in the Greensboro Super NIT and Tennessee Super NIT, punching their ticket in Kingsport to the Elite 32 World Series. Significant games in those Super NIT's included wins over Team Orlando, Georgia Prospects, and 5-Tool Nationals. You can expect the Braves to be highly competitive at the upcoming Atlanta Super NIT, CABA Georgia State Championship, USSSA Georgia State Championship, and USSSA Elite 32 World Series this summer.

The Braves have compiled a 20-11 record through May 10, with one of their tough losses coming from a heart-breaking 4-3 contest against the in-park rival East Cobb Astros. In a USSSA World Series Qualifier semi-finals match-up back in April, the Braves took a 3-1 lead over the Astros into the bottom of the fifth inning, but a 2-RBI double by TBS Pre-Season Player-to-Watch Josh Hart put the Astros ahead 4-3 as time expired in the 6th inning.

The Braves are managed this season by Shane Monahan. An alumnus of East Cobb Baseball, Shane was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th round of the 1992 amateur draft. He elected instead to attend Clemson University where he became a three-time All-American and three-time All-Conference baseball player. In 1995, he was chosen as the ACC Player of the Year and was selected in the second round of the amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners. Then, at 23 years old, he broke into the big leagues on July 9, 1998. He played in the outfield for the Mariners and retired from professional baseball in 2003.
