13U Super Series Super 16 field appears to be wide open By Devin Hasson If anything was learned from pool play action earlier this week at the 13U Super Series Super 16 World Series, it was that any team in the field has a legitimate shot. Ten teams began play on Sunday at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch in McKinney, with each team getting three games. Surprisingly, none of the 10 teams was able to get through pool play unscathed and to complicate matters, six teams ended the two days with 2-1 records. With the teams separated by the slimmest of margins, the seeding was determined by tiebreakers, and the margin of difference there also proved to be razor thin. The seeding was determined by which team allowed the fewest number of runs during pool play. The honor of being the No. 1 seed was awarded to the Blue Sox. The Rockwall-based squad edged the Dallas Tigers, an honorable mention selection in the travelballselect.com 13U rankings, with a 5-4 win, was edged by the Tulsa Hurricanes, 7-6 and then closed pool play in impressive fashion with a 10-0 blanking of the Flower Mound Warriors. That total of 11 runs was just enough to edge Intocable, which also allowed just 11 runs in victories over the Dallas Stars (3-1) and Oklahoma Bearcats (6-3) and a loss to the Banditos White (7-1). The third seed went to the Oklahoma Bearcats, who surrendered just 12 runs. In addition to the loss to Intocable, they picked up wins over the Dallas Stars (6-5) and the Banditos-White (10-1). That loss by Banditos-White cost them a chance at the top seed, as they had won their first two games over Intocable and the Dallas Stars (12-2). The Louisiana Giants and Tulsa Hurricanes, who also finished pool play with 2-1 records, earned the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively. The Flower Mound Warriors finished with a 1-1-1 record, including a win over the Giants, to get the seventh seed, while the eighth-seeded Dallas Tigers got its lone victory over the East Texas Cats to finish at 1-2. The Cats were 0-2-1 and were seeded ninth, while the Dallas Stars were the only team not to pick up a win and were given the No. 10 seed.
