13U - SF Extreme Earns Elite 32 Berth Print E-mail
It was a must win for the SF Extreme in the quarterfinals of the Governor's Games in Louisiana. In order to qualify for the Elite 32, The Extreme had to win and against the best team in the Country, Terror Baseball - LA (50-0) ranked #1 by TBS. The game was a pitchers duel between Corey Avrard for the Terror and Aaron Soto for the Extreme. In the top of the fourth inning the SF Extreme struck first. With two outs Brian Gonzalez hit a double to left center and scored on a base hit from Spencer Levine. In the bottom of the fourth the Terror answered when Scott Sanders walked and reached second on a passed ball, Sanders was then thrown out on third on Handsome Monica's grounder to Bryan Bermudez, David Quinn's fielders choice made it two outs with a runner at first. Bryce Jordan reached first on a base on ball and David Quinn scored on an infield error by Bermudez making the game 1-1. In the top of the sixth the Extreme scored again when Bryan Bermudez got a base hit followed by Brandon Vicen's bunt base hit and then Aaron Soto's base hit loading the bases. Brian Gonzalez then hit a ground ball to shortstop Kennon Fontenot, but Aaron Soto beat out the throw to second base scoring Bryan Bermudez from third. Corey Avrard got out of the inning with a strike out and two flyballs with the Extreme up 2-1. Aaron Soto recorded two quick strikeouts and had two strikes on Hezekiah Randolph when Randolph got a base hit to right field, recording the first hit for the Terror. Bryce Jordan followed with a double to left field scoring Randolph from first and tying the game 2-2. But the SF Extreme would not be denied, second baseman Jamele Edney led off the seventh with a double and with one out AJ Fidalac's base hit up the middle scored Edney from second on a bang bang play at the plate. Brian Gonzalez, who came in relief of Aaron Soto, recorded the last three outs and preserving the win for the Extreme. Aaron Soto pitched a great game going 6 2/3 innings allowing only 2 hits 1 earned run and 7 strikeouts. A congratulation goes out to both Terror Baseball and the SF Extreme for such a well fought game.
