Welcome to the life of a 2008 1st Team TBS All-American. Jerrod Hathcock was born on September 6th 1985, to Howard and Jennifer Hathcock. Jerrod has five brothers and sisters, Justin age 15 (plays ball for Team Alabama), Brandon age 10, Hunter age 6, Hope age 4, and Haven age 2, Jerrod and his family currently resides in Fairhope, AL. Hathcock plays for the TBS #3 ranked Terminators based out of Mississippi and also played on Team TBS in the 12U Cooperstown Tournament last summer. As a seventh grader, Jerrod made his Junior Varsity squad at Fairhope High School. Jerrod is a 5’9, 170 lb. catcher with power at the plate and smooth hands behind the dish. His teammates refer to him as “J-Rod.” TBS asked J-Rod a few questions and here’s what he had to say: Jerrod’s favorite position to play is catcher because he likes being involved in every play and he enjoys being the leader on the field. Jerrod mimics his favorite player in the MLB, Jason Varitek, with his great catching ability and smooth swing. Jerrod says “he’s a great role model for young catcher’s coming up in the game.” His favorite MLB team is the Tampa Bay Rays. Jerrod is also a standout football player and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. His favorite foods are pizza and spaghetti and his favorite movie is the awe inspiring “Remember the Titans”. When Jerrod isn’t framing pitches or blasting game-winning homeruns he likes to spend his time at church, with his family, practicing baseball and hanging out with friends. Cooperstown Dreams Park in New York is Jerrod’s favorite park that he has played in; hopefully someday he can add Yankee Stadium to that list. When asked what his favorite subject in school, Jerrod responded “All of your subjects should be important, you should put forth your best effort in everything you do.” A 13 year old catcher who is wise beyond his years, other 13U teams might want to put their radar on J-Rod. Jerrod says the best asset to any team is “team unity, being able to communicate with your teammates and play as a team is awesome.” TravelBallSelect is thankful to have had the opportunity to visit with Jerrod and wish him and his team the best this season. And the next time you see Jerrod at the park, tell him that you read about “J-Rod” on TBS.
