Morris, IL The 13U Warriors are coming off a 28-16-1 record last year and have 8 of 11 players returning. The coaching staff is proud to say these young men get along like best friends, and they we’re all happy to welcome in three new players to join the team this year. The three new players are Geno Persico, Kevin Ely, and Zach Hoeg. All three of these boys have meshed right in with the returning players who are Nick Beeler, Jake Capko, Austin Conrod, Mitch Dite, Mitch Vogrin, Brennan Polcyn, Grant Schluntz and Trevor Lines. The team started mastering their skills in the off season with many challenging workouts. The 13U Warriors will be playing in the I-80 League this year. The I-80 league is made up of 15 teams divided into 2 divisions. The Warriors will be playing in the upper (elite) division, and it is their goal to win that division. The Warriors will also be participating in a number of tournaments in Illinois, as well as traveling out to Omaha, NE to play in the Triple Crown Tournament which takes place right along side the College World Series. The team is looking forward to performing well and watching their favorite college teams while visiting. Some of the Illinois tourneys the Warriors will participate in will include a tournament in Rock Island, two in Lynwood, (the first is a wood bat only) one at Lenz Field in Jacksonville, and the team will finish the year with a local tournament in Joliet. The versatility of the players is exceptional. Leading the way on the mound will be Grant Schluntz, Mitch Vogrin, Kevin Ely and Jake Capko. Coming in for relief will be much of the rest of the team. Competing for time behind the plate will be Mitch Vogrin, Brennan Polcyn, Geno Persico, and Jake Capko. Our outfielders will be lead by Mitch Dite, Austin Conrod, Kevin Ely, Zach Hoeg, Brennan Polcyn, and Nick Beeler. Third base will be split between Geno Persico, Nick Beeler and Mitch Vogrin. Middle infield duties will be performed by Trevor Lines, Mitch Vogrin, Jake Capko, and Brennan Polcyn. First base duties will be handed off to Grant Schluntz, Kevin Ely, Nick Beeler, and Jake Capko. The 13U Warriors feel fortunate to have a three man coaching staff this year. The team is very excited to utilize all three coaches in order to help these young men develop into the best possible players they can be. The most fulfilling thing for a coach to see is the progression of a player from the beginning of the season to the end. TravelBallSelect would like to wish the 13U Warriors much success in the 2009 season.
