- By Ernie Rapiere August 20, 2009 Cooperstown Dreams Park – Week 11 “Sweet 16” play has now been completed as only 5 of 104 teams still remain unbeaten. The “Elite 8” match-ups are set and ready to get underway. Following is a summary of the results of today’s key games leading to the “Elite 8”. The #1 seed Tustin Mets (CA) beat #16 Los Angeles Rattlers (CA) by 14-7. The Rattlers got a 3xRBI homerun from Steinberg while Grayson went 2-for-4 with 2xRBIs but this wasn’t enough to stop the Mets who got homeruns from Doherty, Christopherson, and Peabody to advance to the “Elite 8” where they will face the Jersey Shore Stallions (NJ). #2 seed – The Las Vegas Warriors survived a strong challenge from the #15 seed California Golden Spikes. The Spikes got their offense in gear with a homerun from Manny Avila’s homerun. Nick Galvan went 2-for-3 w/ 2 RBI. The Warriors Nolan Kingham went 3-for-3 with a homerun, while Tyler Gixby went 2-for-3 with a homerun to push the Warriors past the Spikers by a score of 10-9. The Warriors will face #7 Rise Baseball (VA) later today. #3 seed – The Shrub Oak Storm (NY) fell 11-9 to the #19 Connecticut Cardinals. The Cardinals Willie Burger went 4-for-4 with a homerun; Toth, Johnson, Vazzano, Rich & Walkinshew each hit a homerun. The Storm got homeruns from Arena, Dupich, Fara, and Harta. The Cardinals will advance to the “Elite 8” where they will face the #6 seed Moorpark Mud Dogs (CA).
#7 seed – RISE Baseball (VA) advanced to Thursday’s “Elite 8” play with a 7-0 shutout win over the North Wall Knights (NJ). Next up, RISE will face the #2 seed Las Vegas Warriors (NV).
