- By Ernie Rapiere August 20, 2009 Cooperstown Dreams Park – The first day of Week #11 bracket play has now been completed with only 9 of 104 teams still remain unbeaten. The “Sweet 16” match-ups have now been determined. Following is a summary of the results of today’s key games that lead to Thursday’s “Sweet 16” teams. The #1 seed Tustin Mets (CA) – shut out the #32 seed Minnesota Academy Blizzard as Christopher, Auich & Carton each hit a homerun to lead the Mets to their 12-0 win. The Mets will face #16 seed Los Angeles Rattlers (CA). #2 seed – The Las Vegas Warriors found themselves in a battle for survival as they edged past the upset minded South Bay Dukes (CA) by the slim margin of 6-5. The Warriors will face the #15 seed California Golden Spikes in the “Sweet 16” round as play resumes Thursday morning. #3 seed – The Shrub Oak Storm (NY) scored a 12-0 shutout win over the La Verne Eagles (CA) as they advance to face the #19 seed Connecticut Cardinals (CT). The Cardinals earned their “Sweet 16” berth with a 12-0 win over the Marlton Reds (NJ) in a game where Burger and Vazzano both went 2 for 2 with a homerun, while Toth went 2-for-3 with a homerun. The Cardinals also beat the Conejo Panthers 3-2 in a game where Vazzano lead his Cardinals to victory by hitting a homerun and pitching 5 innings with 9 strikeouts. #4 seed – The Santa Barbara Tides (CA) advanced to the final 16 rounds after surviving a close 3-2 win over #29 Scranton Miners (PA). But, the Red Dogs found their way to win on the arm of Justin Scoville who went the full 6 innings with 12 strikeouts while Nick Blomberg lead the Red Dogs scoring by going 2 for 2 with a homerun. The Red Dogs will face the #12 seed Pottsville Pythons (PA) as play opens on Thursday. #6 seed – Moorpark Mud Dogs (CA) offense struggled, but found a way to beat #27 Club Sandwich (MA). Moorpark got an outstanding pitching from Blake Chiramonte pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts.
