12U Norwalk Stingrays Print E-mail

Top Guns of the West

The 2009 edition of the 12U Norwalk Stingrays are on pace to surpass the impressive records set by last year’s TEAM.

The West has several outstanding championship caliber 12U teams and organizations. TravelBallSelect will be featuring these outstanding teams in this series of articles - “Top Guns of the West”.

Clearly, any discussion of top 12U teams in the nation must start with the Norwalk Stingrays.  This 2009 team is ranked #1 nationally by TravelBallSelect.com and is systematically surpassing the accomplishments of last year’s 12U Stingray team.  Thus far this season, the Stingrays have been a dominate factor on the West Coast.  They have built an awesome record that includes more than 90 wins and only 1 loss.   Many of these wins have come against some of the top 12U and 13U teams in the country.

For instance, The Stingrays have two wins over the TBS #2 ranked Lamorinda Cougars (albeit in close games).  They have also beaten an outstanding TEAM TABU of Fremont, California – a team that is perennially ranked among the top 5 teams nationally by TravelBallSelect. And the list goes on.  They also have multiple wins over the TBS #12 ranked TEAM Rawlings Elite, the #20 Santa Clarita Redhawks, the #22 Great Hands Glove, and wins over TBS Honorable Mention TEAMS, Clippers BBC, Tomateros, Team Anderson and Rawlings Mavericks.

The Stingrays most recent win came in the championship game at the USSSA Bat Wars tournament held at Big League Dreams Park in West Covina, California.  This championship game (no doubt) produced a lifetime of memories for both teams as the Stingrays edged TEAM Rawlings Elite by a score of 14-13 in a marathon 10 inning game. The Stingrays have won at least six major tournaments in 2009.  These wins include three USSSA Super NIT events, (2 in California and 1 in Arizona).

Coach - Rudy Casillas:  Athletes - BRADY AIKEN, BRIAN BEATO, LORENZO CARILLO, ALEX CASILLAS, JAREN DURAN, AUSTIN FRESQUEZ, IZZY FUENTES, JUSTIN GONZALES,ELIAS ORONA, STEVE PATINO, JOHNNY WEEKS, and SEAN WILLIAMS

In addition, they have won tournaments qualifying them for both the AAU National Championship, as well as, the Super Series Summer World Series. To talk about key Stingray players - clearly no team can build a record like this without having truly outstanding athletes from top to bottom of their roster.  Their line up starts with a very deep pitching staff which includes TBS “Players to Watch” and All Americans Izzy Fuentes, Brady Aiken, Lorenzo Carillo, and Ely Orona.  But more, these pitchers also lead their powerful line up of hitters including TBS “Players to Watch”, Lorenzo Carillo, along with clean up hitter Sean Williams, Brady Aiken, and Brian Beato.

Next up, the Stingrays will play in the Memorial Day Super Series Super 16.  This tournament will be held in La Mirada and Whittier, California during Memorial Day weekend (May 23-25, 2009).  If you live in an area where these youngsters will be playing, it is worth the price to go see these truly remarkable athletes in action.  Better still, if you are a 12U team, it is worth a chance to match up against a team that is truly setting a standard that may never be repeated.
