11U- Triple Crown Summer Nationals (SC)- Championship Game Print E-mail

A four run comeback, a walk-off single, with a Championship Trophy at stake, sounds like a good game to me. The Mid Ohio Blaze staved off a four run comeback by the Georgia Stampede to win 8-7 at the Triple Crown Summer Nationals located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The Blaze broke out of the gates and scored four runs in the 1st inning, Andrew Blough started it all with a double off the center field fence. Blough would later scored on a hit by Harris.

The Stampede put up a run in the 2nd inning when William Hodges doubled to left and scored on a single to right field. The Stampede would cut the Blaze lead to 4-2 when Tyler Pullum singled up the middle to bring home Dusty Baker in the top of the 3rd.

The Stampede took the lead in the 5th inning when Dusty Baker doubled down the right field line with the bases loaded to score three runs. The Blaze’s Andrew Blough stepped up to the challenge once again when he singled and scored in the very next inning to tie the game.

In the top of the 6th and final inning, the Stampede pushed across two runs, Charlie Harvell tripled to right field. With the score 7-5 in favor of the Stampede, the Blaze needed a big hit, a walk, something to help them pull out the victory.

There were two outs in the bottom of the 6th inning when Ridge Durbin singled to keep the Blaze hopes alive. The next batter Noah Ferguson singled to right field, the tying run was aboard. The Stampede decided to intentionally walk the next batter, Keen and pitch to Andrew Blough. Blough stepped up to his last challenge of the tournament and hit a fastball inches away from a walk-off grand slam for a ground-rule double to score two Blaze runs and tie the game at seven all. Blough did his job but the hero today would be Kirk Manns, with the winning run on third Meens hit a single over the second baseman’s head to win the game and the Championship for the Mid Ohio Blaze.

This was a Championship game to remember, the entire park came over to watch the ending of this game. Both of these teams played remarkable, down to the last inning, the last out and the last pitch.
