Earlier in the Championship Day the Southside Slammers of Illinois won in dramatic extra innings earlier in the day to face the Keller Colts in the Omaha SlumpBuster 11U Championship game on Wednesday, June 17th. But the Slammers late inning heroics didn’t carry over into the championship game and the Keller Colts won in a nailbiter: 3-2. Colts starting pitcher Connor Towles got the win, giving up only one run over three innings. Jonathan Allison put the Slammers up early with an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Brandon Rossiter, but the Colts responded in the bottom of the first as Cameron Rhodes and Josh McCann crossed the plate. With the Colts up 3-1, Cameron Rhodes and Taylor Wilson both pitched the fourth to allow one Slammer run, bringing the score to 3-2. Jimmy Petrulis pitched the fifth and sixth for the Slammers, silencing the Colts bats in the best pitching performance of the game. Petrulis retired all six batters he faced, striking out three. But the Colts held on in the top of the sixth, retiring the side and winning the Omaha SlumpBuster 11U Championship.
