The Illinois Sparks American entered the game 1-0 in pool play, fresh off a 12-2 victory against the Hampshire Slaughter (IL). The Pueblo Sharks came in 0-1 with a 9-1 loss to the Las Vegas Warriors. Déjà vu set in for the Illinois Sparks as they defeated the Sharks 12-2 in the 2nd round of pool play.

The Sparks got on the board first when Brad McNickolas singled past the first baseman to bring home a run. Mike Atkensen brought home McNickolas with a single to left field pushing the Sparks lead to 3-0.

Mike Massey and Brian Wood provided back to back doubles to bring home the fourth run of the game for the Sparks. Wood would later score on an error by the Sharks third baseman. Mike Atkensen picked up his second RBI on the day with a single to left.

The Sharks were able to get on the board in the 4th inning, when Christian Dellenastra and Ronnie Mauldonaldo scored on back to back wild pitches. Sparks reliever Ryan Kutt would hold the Sharks at bay over the next inning to keep the score 6-2 going into the 5th. The Sparks would score six runs in the bottom of the 5th to finish the game 12-2 by run rule. Ryan Kutt, Brad McNickolas, Alan Budz, Mike Massey and Brian Wood each had a hit and a run scored in the inning.

Andrew Dyke started on the mound for the Sparks, giving up no runs in three innings to get the win.
