By Robert Thomas Over 100 select baseball teams kicked off bracket play on Thursday at the AAYBA World Series qualifier in Flower Mound, Texas, with play going on in four age classes. Team Sports Red 9, American Force 4 Team Sports Red from Rockwall, Texas scored seven unanswered runs in Thursday's bracket play opener, rallying from an early deficit to claim a five-run win over American Force from The Woodlands, Texas. Team Sports Red trailed 4-2 after the first inning, but put together three-run innings in the fourth and sixth frames to claim the win. "We got off to a tough start but things got better as the game went on," said Team Sports Red coach Todd Thompson. "The kids started hitting and our pitching and defense really came on as well." Team Sports Red opened the game with two-run first inning, with Calvin Ferguson and Corbin Hernandez scoring on a throwing error. That lead quickly eroded in the bottom of the inning, with American Force scoring four times to take a two-run lead. Cameron Goode (2-for-2) ripped a two-run single for American Force, with Michael Davis and Jimmy Dermody adding RBI singles. However, Team Sports Red cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third when Ferguson scored on a throwing error. The three-run fourth inning put Team Sports Red in the lead to stay thanks to RBI singles from Tyler Self, Tyson Thompson and Corbin Hernandez. Thompson added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to plate Landon Longsworth for the next run, with the other runs scoring on a throwing error and a wild pitch. The run support was more than enough for Ferguson on the mound, as he retired 15 of the final 18 batters he faced for a complete game win. Ferguson allowed just two hits over the last five innings while striking out three. Team Sports Red also got standout defense from third baseman Gabe Settles, Hernandez at shortstop and Longsworth in right field. Offensively, Team Sports Red got multi-hit games from Josh Owen, Thompson, Hernandez and Ferguson.
