11U- AAYBA World Series (TX)- #3 Dallas Patriots Red (TX) vs. Honorable Mention East Cobb Stars (GA) Print E-mail

Dallas Patriots Red 6, East Cobb Stars  1

Friday's Platinum bracket semifinal was a matchup between two of the top seeds in the 11-and-under age group, with the TBS #3 ranked Dallas Patriots Red putting together great pitching and timely hitting in a decisive five-run win over the TBS Honorable Mention East Cobb Stars from Marietta, Georgia.

The Patriots (a top 10 seed) never trailed in the contest, using a two-run fourth inning and three-run fifth inning to claim the big win. "We knew this was going to be a good game between two good teams," said Patriots Red coach Logan Stout. "I'm proud of how our guys played, they just came out and made the plays when we needed them."

The Patriots started the game's scoring in the top of the first, as Cody Sturgeon drove in Austin DeLeon with a groundout to third. Sturgeon finished the game with two RBIs while DeLeon racked up three runs scored.

East Cobb tied the game in the bottom of the second at 1-1, getting a sacrifice fly from Zach Goodman to score Zach Mudge. But the Patriots grabbed the game's momentum back in the top of the fourth.

DeLeon started the frame and moved to third with a stolen base and a groundout. A slick bunt single from Sturgeon drove DeLeon home, with Jordan Roberts adding a clutch two-out single to plate Sturgeon.

Patriots starting pitcher Michael Neustifter (2-for-3, two RBIs) kept the lead intact through four innings, retiring 12 of the 17 batters he faced. He also had the key hit during the team's three-run fifth inning, crushing a two-run single to score Ryan Cash and DeLeon.

Cash had the other big hit, a run-scoring single to plate Decker Branch. The Patriots then turned to Roberts to close the game out on the mound, and Robert responded with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts to get the save.
