2009 11U Edgewood Bulldogs (IN) PDF Print E-mail

The Edgewood Bulldogs, Indianapolis, Indiana, have developed over the past three seasons from an 8U recreational all-star team based out of Edgewood Athletic Association to a successful travel progam with a 2007-2008 overall record of 116-17.  During that time span the Bulldogs won 11 tournaments, including back-to-back Indiana Select League regular season and post-season championships.  The highlight of the Bulldogs 2008 season was the opportunity to travel to Cooperstown, NY to compete with 96 teams from across the nation, including many nationally recognized and Travel Ball Select ranked teams.  The Bulldogs finished with a respectful record of 5-3 losing to TBS #12 ranked West Pines Nike Cobras (FL) and TBS Honorable Mention Kennesaw Xtreme (GA) and Hanover Sports (VA).

The defensive minded Bulldogs place a major emphasis on the fundamentals having committed nearly half as many errors as their opponents in 2008, holding the opposition to 2.83 runs per game and throwing 1,895 fewer pitches over their 62 game schedule.

The Bulldogs will take two months off and then commence indoor workouts during January to prepare for the 2009 campaign which is anticipated to be even more competitive as the team will once again be competing in the USSSA sanctioned Indiana Select League.  Building upon their experience in Cooperstown, the Bulldogs will travel out of state on several occassions to play in regional tournaments, including The Michigan Major Elite NIT and The Cincy Flames Tournament of Champions, which will include many very competitive Travel Ball Select nationally ranked teams.

The 2009 roster includes returning players Bryce Garrity, Mitchell Garrity, Max Heyob, Zach Lee, Eric Rigsby, Brian Schaler, Cody Smith, Logan Smith, Bryce Wentzell, Reid Werner and the addition of Mitch Ubelhor.   The coaching staff will again consist of Manager Chris Garrity and Assistant Coaches Mike Rigsby, Mike Schaler and Steve Wentzell.

The past two seasons have been very successful for the Bulldogs as evidenced by their accomplishments; however, the goal has been, and always will be, to teach and develop the fundamentals of the game to prepare these young men to play high school baseball.  Being named TBS Honorable Mention is a huge recognition for this team as its schedule and inability to compete year round is dictated by the cold Midwestern winter.  Travel Ball Select would like to wish the Edgewood Bulldogs much success in 2009.
