10U- Super Series 16 World Series (TX)- Honorable Mention Dallas Tigers (TX) vs. #6 McKinney Marshal Print E-mail

Dallas Tigers dump nationally-ranked Marshals to advance to semifinals

By Devin Hasson

McKinney, Texas. The Dallas Tigers followed up a nearly-flawless performance in pool play by handing the McKinney Marshals a 9-1 loss to advance to the semifinals of the 10U winner’s bracket at the Super Series Super 16 World Series at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch in McKinney. The top-seeded Tigers, who have won all four games they have played at the event, are an honorable mention selection in the latest travelballselect.com 10U national poll.

The Marshals, who entered the tournament ranked 14th in the nation, must now claw their way though the elimination bracket if they want to defend their home turf.
It was methodical victory for Dallas, which scored once in the first inning, three times in both the second and third innings and two more in the fourth. The Tigers wasted little time getting started, as Will Adair and Ty Manning drew one-out walks and Jared Martin lined a RBI single to left to take a 1-0 lead.

McKinney was able to leave the bases loaded and then took advantage of an error to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second but that would be all the offense they were allowed.
Dawson Barr, who allowed just one hit in four innings and had his effort capped by a nice double play by first baseman Jake Whitbeck, who snared a soft liner and tagged a base runner trying to retreat to the bag for a double play to end the fourth inning.

Cole Solomon came on in the fifth inning and retired the side in order to end the game. The Tigers offense provided plenty of support. In the bottom of the second, Whitbeck singled, moved to second on an error and scored on a base hit by Lance Russell to give Dallas a 2-1 lead. Syler Shepherd followed with a single and Adair brought home two more runs when he belted a double over the left-fielder’s head.

The Tigers extended that margin in the third inning with a two-out rally. Hayden Houser had doubled to lead off the inning and he eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. Whitbeck and Barr drew consecutive walks and Russell and Shepherd followed with back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 7-1.
Dallas put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Houser had a single to bring home Adair and Brandon Earnest’s ground ball scored Manning to make it 9-1.
