TABU Slugs it's way Past Rally

Twin Creeks, CA. In previous games, Tabu manager C.J. Perez said Zach Mata had been struggling at the plate. Against Hard 90 Rally in 10U action, Mata broke out of his slump in emphatic fashion.

Mata’s three-run double in the third inning broke the game wide open, and he finished with five RBIs in Tabu’s 15-3 win in four innings on Saturday. “It is a beautiful thing,” Perez said regarding his five RBIs. “He has
been a little slump lately but he swung the bat well today.”

Tabu’s base running also played a huge role in Tabu taking a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Cooper Smith led-off the game a walk, then stole two bags and scored on a wild pitch. Mason Beheil, who finished the game with three RBIs, drovfe in Robert Chiono with a sac fly to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Cody Stevenson’s two-out two-run single extended Tabu’s lead to four. Stevenson gave Tabu their fifth run of the inning by scoring all the way from second on a wild pitch. “We are a very aggressive team on the bases,” Perez said.

Tabu scored five more in the third inning, lead by the Mata three-run double. Tabu had four consecutive batters reach base before Mata turned on a Drew Rodriguez fastball and belted it over the Rally left fielder.

T.J. Myers went all four innings, striking out four while only allowing four hits. Perez said Tabu would may need to play better defense to win the championship tomorrow. “Good pitching, keep hitting, play some D,” Perez said. “We had a couple of lapses on defense and we’d like to fix those.”
