Motor City Hot Dogs top Ohio Diamond Hawks By Brad D. Bates The Motor City Hot Dogs 10U team made the most of its timely hitting taking a 7-1 win against the Ohio Diamond Hawks at day two of the Michigan Super NIT. The Hot Dogs capitalized on almost all off their chances to score runs — leaving only one runner on base to end and inning — while the Diamond Hawks stranded a total of five May 24 at Liberty Park in Sterling Heights Mich. “The thing we told them coming into the game was that you win games between the lines by using what’s between your ears,” Diamond Hawks coach Gary Orr said. “We’re a very talented team, and if we start using our heads and executing at the right time, we’re going to win a lot more games.” Hot Dogs pitcher Harrison Salter knocked in the game’s first run with his double to right field in the bottom of the second and then scored the game’s second run on a wild pitch to give himself a 2-0 lead. The two runs were all Salter needed as he held the Diamond Hawks scoreless for the first five innings before allowing a run in the top of the sixth when third baseman Tanner Glass’s sacrifice fly to center scored catcher Zach Buescher. “Defense and pitching are our strengths,” Hot Dogs coach John Salter said. “We’re 43-4 this year, and we were 67-5 last year, so these kids know how to win.” The Hot Dogs scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by an RBI double to center off the bat of shortstop Bryce Bush. Center fielder Steve Mann then added the exclamation point with his fifth-inning two-run triple to left that scored catcher Luke McGuire and right fielder Colby Green. Mann would then score on second baseman Michael Marsee’s sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.
