Greensboro, NC. The Knoxville Stars faced off versus the Carolina Rage in a quarterfinal match-up Sunday afternoon at Proehlific Park at the Greensboro Super NIT. In a close game until the last inning the Stars defeated the Rage 9-4. Joe Pace started the game for the Stars, after giving up a leadoff walk to #36 Clay, Pace then gave up a single to #5 Sam that scored Clay who had stolen second one pitch earlier. Pace settled in and struck out the next batter to strand a runner at 3rd base. In the first inning for the Stars, Cade Mays singled through the left side to score a run. With the score tied 1-1 in the 2nd inning, Pace found himself in a situation with a runner at second and first. Pace picked off #99 Braxton of the Rage at first base, only to have Braxton stay in a run down long enough for the runner at 2nd base to spring by the third base bag on his way to score, making it 2-1 in favor of the Rage. In the bottom half of the inning, the man of the hour came up to plate, Bryson Tolley, stepped up a blasts a solo homerun just inside the foul pole in left field to tie the game 2-2. In the third inning Dane Rhinecker hits a double to left center to score a run pushing the lead to 3-2. Corban Bernard then doubles and Joe Pace singles him in to make it 4-2. Bryson Tolley then comes up and hits a screamer off of the wall, just missing his 2nd homerun of the game. However, the Stars could not score him. In the top of the 5th inning Chase Wallace came into the game to relieve Bryson Tolley who pitched a scoreless 3rd and 4th but found himself in trouble in the 5th inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, #14 Noah of the Carolina Rage hits a single to right field to tie the game 4-4. The Knoxville Stars fought back in the bottom half of the inning with the bases loaded Chase Wallace hits a single to make it 5-4. Joe Pace followed Wallace up with a single of his own to make it 6-4. The Stars continued their onslaught until they made it 9-4, earning a chance to play in the semi-finals.
