By Devin Hasson The Dallas Tigers have had their share of ups and downs through the first three tournaments. The first two days of the 2009 Elite Travel Classic Texas Regional were no different. A day after taking care of the Flower Mound Warriors in a 6-2 victory, the Tigers were derailed by Knights Red in a 9-4 loss. With the 1-1 record in pool play, the Tigers slipped to the sixth seed, but responded with their best performance of the season with a 16-1 trouncing of the North Texas Express. They now move on in bracket play to face the third-seed Banditos-Black on Sunday. “We haven’t played like this so far, we haven’t put it together like we did in this game,” Dallas Tigers head coach Linty Ingram said. “Hopefully, we can put it together like that again tomorrow.” It took just three innings to earn the run-rule victory over the Express, as the Tigers scored six runs in the first, four in the second and the decisive six in third inning. “These kids have been working hard and have been getting better,” Ingram said. “They came out today with some real conviction, they were aggressive at the plate and the pitching and defense was good. That is what we have been looking for.” Tigers starter Lance Russell allowed just two hits while striking out four in two innings. The offense went to work immediately, sending nine men to the plate in opening a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Dallas continued the onslaught in the bottom of the second, as Jared Martin’s single scored Hayden Houser, Russell belted a run-scoring double and Syler Shepherd and Brandon Earnest each drove in runs to make it 10-0. With the run-rule within reach in the bottom of the third, the Tigers grabbed it. William Adair singled and was driven in on a single by Ty Manning. Jake Ryan, Dawson Barr, and Martin followed with RBI base hits and Cole Solomon knocked in a run to put the finishing touches on the 16-1 win.
