10U- Atlanta Super NIT- Mizuno Glory Baseball (FL) vs. GA Yard Dogs Black Print E-mail

By Richard Hurd

On Saturday, March 21, 2009, 10U Mizuno Glory Baseball (ranked #7 by TravelBallSelect in 2008) played the 10U GA Yard Dogs Black in Pool A, Game #5.  The Mizuno Glory was coming off of an earlier win this morning, so the team and fans were already buzzing with excitement.  Coach Robbie Robison’s team took a 5-run lead in the top of the 1st inning thanks to an RBI double by Alex Sanchez and RBI strokes by Spanky Robison and Chase Sanguinetti.  With the bases loaded and 2 outs, however, the Yard Dogs dodged more damage as the centerfielder made a nice snag for the third out.

In the bottom of the 1st the Mizuno Glory’s Edward Surinach, a composed righty with a lively fastball and sharp curve, was quick to establish his presence on the mound.  It was not long before Surinach would send his team back to offense, where #15 Zach Jackson led off the top of the 2nd with an opposite field solo homerun.  The Mizuno Glory crowd went wild, cowbells clanging, and would do so again spurred by another Jackson bomb in the 3rd, this time a 2-run blast.  Later in the inning, #27 Chase Sanguinetti would add a 3-run homer, and Surinach would help his own cause with a 2 out, 2 RBI single to center.

The tenacious Yard Dogs refused to go down without a fight, as they threatened with a rally in the bottom of the 4th. Wallace Corker, #2, got things going with a leadoff walk and later swiped third.  #4 Kevin Barnham just missed the squeeze, although he followed this attempt with an RBI single.  Barnham would later steal second base, and #1 Mike Wright would drive him in for the second Yard Dog run.  The Yard Dogs got things rolling too late, however, as the Mizuno Glory got their final out in the 4th to end the game 20-2.
