10U- Atlanta Super NIT- Alabama Attack defeat PTB- The Elite Print E-mail

By Richard Hurd

It was a great evening for baseball at Moseley Park as the PTB Elite took on the Alabama Attack at 6:30 PM on Field #3.  The Attack, defending their #34 ranking last year by Travel Baseball Select, proved a formidable foe once again as they edged out the PTB Elite 5-4..  Both teams played with heart and skill as the setting sun glared into the eyes of its batters and cheering fans.

The PTB Elite’s play was certainly not overshadowed.  Coach James “Bo” Turner’s Elite had standout performances from Zach, Jacob, Chad, and Drew, who all contributed with RBIs.  In the bottom of the second Alabama’s Shaeffer walked and stole a base and was driven in by Holsombeck, following a Strickland RBI that knocked in McDonald.  By the end of the 4th, however, Coach Jay McCullough’s Attack trailed 3-2.

Despite Zachary Kennedy’s efforts on the mound, Tyler Courtney’s Jeter-esque play at short, and Tyler Jones over-the-shoulder snag in foul territory, the Attack’s offense could not be contained.  The Attack’s Kytie was most impressive in the bottom of the fourth after knocking in a run.  He stole 2nd, then 3rd, and then finished it off with a stealthy home invasion, as his #6 jersey blurred past the opposing catcher.  “Now that’s what I call baseball!” yelled the first base coach as he gave Kytie a high five.

In the fifth the Alabama Attack’s Murphy led off with a single and then advanced following another Holsombeck single.  It was Strickland who drove in the winning run with a sharp single up the middle.  “The Hammer”, as he is referred to by his coaches and teammates, was also the winning pitcher of record.  Fittingly, Coach McCullough and his assistant coaches commented after the game, “The Attack is a blue collar baseball team!”  That’s funny. Their jerseys are orange. Unless Kytie’s on the bases, that is: then they’re nearly invisible.
