June 25, 2009 Cooperstown, week 3 (10U play) – Rounds 2 and 3 of bracket play has now been completed at Dreams Park with only four teams still remaining as play enters into the semi-final games.  These games match the #4 seed, 6-4-3 Baseball Academy Cougars (GA) against the #1 seed, San Diego Stars North.  In the 2nd half of the semi-finals, the #14 seed, Georgia Bandits are facing off against the #2 seed, Mizuno’s Glory (FL).

Highlights of Day 2 Bracket Play Results – Round 2
The #4 seed TABU of Fremont, California opened play at 8am this morning and advanced past the Southside Americans (NC) by a score of 8-3.

The #22 seed Charlotte MegaStars continued to make a strong showing, but their upset efforts fell short as the Texas Nationals edged past them 4-3 to advance to the quarter finals.

The Lamorinda Diablos (CA) took advantage of a grand slam by Cameron Nosdal along with a solo home run by Brandon Mellwain to advance past the Pembroke Lakes Bulldogs (FL) by a score of 10-7.

The Wellington Warriors (FL) dodged the turbulence of the North Florida Hurricanes by a score of 10-2 as the Warrior’s Mariah went 2-2 and turned each of his hits into a runs scored.

The #1 seed San Diego Stars blasted their way past the Avalanche (FL) as they dug out an impressive 12-3 win.  In this game, Stars Trevin Esquerra hit a homerun to ignite his team to victory.

The #4 seed 6-4-3 Academy Cougars (GA) edged past the #13 seed So CAL Diamond Dawgs as Cougar pitcher, Chris Rolick pitched a stingy game giving up only 4 hits that was reinforced by solid Cougar defense.

Finally, the Georgia Bandits exploded with 20 runs while limiting the Long Beach Fury to only 5 runs.  The Bandits got a big game from Chaney Rogers who hit a 3xRBI homerun to lead their scoring.  Aaron Orozzo hit a home run for the Fury.

Highlights of Day 2 Bracket Play Results – Round 3
Round three opened with the San Diego Stars advancing past the Lamorinda Diablos by a 5-2 margin.  In this game, Diablos’ Brandon Mellwain once again stepped up big with another home run.  But, the Star’s, Stone Scoppettuolo countered with a homerun to help his team advance on to the semi-finals.

On field 8, the #4 seed 6-4-3 Academy Cougars (GA) found themselves in a fierce battle as they had to keep pounding run after run in order to outlast the #5 seed TABU (CA) by a very close 9-8 margin.   WIth this win, the Cougars advanced to face the #1 seed San Diego Stars in the semi-final game at 3pm EST today.

The 2nd half of the semi-final matches were determined as the Georgia Bandits shutout the Texas Nationals by a score of 4-0.  They now move on to face the #2 seed Mizuno’s Glory, as the Glory slammed past the Wellington Warriors (FL) by a comfortable 8-1 margin.
