The Beaver Valley Red 10U team is bound and determined to take a run at a National Title in 2009. It returns 7 star players from a 53 and 6 2008 squad that finished ranked third in the nation by TravelBallSelect. BV Red then recruited four outstanding Pennsylvania area all-stars from other tournament teams and is poised to be stronger than ever. The Beaver Valley baseball organization was founded by Brian Smith and Jim Leyland to create travelling baseball squads featuring the best young players in the Pennsylvania-Ohio-West Virginia tri-state area. The organization consistently fields teams that compete yearly at the highest level in all age groups, and has produced countless Major League draft picks, including three last spring. Last year's BV Red 9's were the strongest BV 9's in the history of the organization. It bodes well for the team as it heads to the 10 year old level that it scouted and recruited four top-notch new players to add to last years star-studded cast. The BV Red team is known for an incredibly deep pitching staff and it's led by a huge lefty, Cole Shinsky. Shinsky pitched his best in the biggest games with his most memorable effort being a shutout performance against mighty Mizuno's Glory in the Triple Crown Nationals semi-finals. His miniscule 0.98 ERA is even more amazing when you consider he did it in the biggest games against the best teams. Michael Haley is one of the nation's best flame-throwers. He struck out 66 in 41 innings. Kyler Fedko produced a remarkable season as an 8-year-old pitching against 9's. Kyler, who threw in the mid-50's last season, went 8 and 0 with a 1.55 ERA. The BV Red bats are led by one of the best 10-year-old hitters in the nation, Christian Fedko. Christian batted .653 with an OBP of .683. He had 141 RBI's with 28 doubles and 6 HR's. But his most amazing stat is that he struck out exactly once in 189 plate appearances when he was caught looking in May. The biggest compliment paid to Christian was when the 9 National Champion Carolina Angels intentionally walked him in the Triple Crown Nationals title game. Other big hitters returning include Jake McCurry, who combines great speed with power. Jake hit .500 and blasted the longest HR many have seen hit by a 9 year old when he hit a 240 foot blast over a 200 foot fence that is 20 feet high in Monroeville, PA. Mark Cyterski did a great job out of the number two spot in the batting order last season, with a .584 OBP and 94 runs scored. Brock Gresock was one of the team's most clutch hitters, producing two dramatic game-winners in a critical game at Ripken and a quarterfinal at the Triple Crown Summer Nationals. The newcomers all look to be major contributors in 2009. Payton Skalos is widely regarded as the best defensive player on the Western PA all-star circuit and he'll solidify the BV Red defense up the middle. Jake Warner was a big game pitcher from his Cranberry, PA all-star team and will be put on the mound to win some big games in 2009 for BV Red. Jake Trautman has a monster bat and a big arm and looks to be middle-of-the-lineup power hitter. And Zach Kokoska has a rocket arm from the left side, and he was the best hitter on a dominant West Point all-star team last year. The BV Red 10's will travel the country this year, competing at Ripken in Aberdeen, Sports at the Beach in Rehoboth, Cooperstown in mid-June, the TBS Freedom Classic in Ohio on July 4 weekend and the Elite World Series in Disney in July. The team is managed by John Fedko, who's in his third year of coaching in the Beaver Valley organization. Coaches includes Tom Haley, Jason Trautman, Dan Gresock and Paul Skalos. The BV Red 10''s plan on playing in 12 tournaments in 2009. You can follow Beaver Valley Red 10U baseball this year at its website: http://beavervalleyred10u.shutterfly.com
