The Lakeshore Fourth Of July Blast came down to a much anticipated clash between to nationally ranked teams. The Aberdeen Arsenal and the Baltimore Buzz. Both teams cruised thru pool play Friday and Saturday leading the Buzz to face the Little Orioles in the semis. The Buzz jumped out early and never looked back advancing to the final with a 9-2 win. In the other semi final match the Arsenal faced the Maryland Falcons. The Falcons put up a good fight but the Arsenal pitching combination of Patrick Rogers and Andrew Dissen closed the door in the end giving the Arsenal a 10-7 victory. The stage was set with both teams having there aces ready to go. The Buzz with Doug Brown on the hill versus The Arsenal with there ace Ryan Ripken. The Arsenal set the tone early with a three up three down of the Buzz hitters. In the bottom of the first Patrick Rogers got the Arsenal started with a lead off single. With two down Brent Jones produced a timely two out double to put the Arsenal up 1-0. The Buzz go quietly again in the second leading the Arsenal back to bat. With Patrick Rogers on second Ryan Jurney hits a long fly out leading Rogers to tag up and go for third. In a Buzz throwing error Rogers is able to make the turn for home and beats the throw in to Buzz catcher Austin Neary by inches. The Arsenal seemed to be on cruise control as Ryan Ripken maintained 2-0 lead thru the fifth. In the sixth inning the Buzz broke the ice scoring two runs with a Shane Marvel single and a Depaula ground out to even the score at 2-2. With the stage set for a seventh inning showdown the Buzz went on top for the first time with a two out single from Wade. Down 3-2, facing Buzz closer Kmiec the Arsenal came to bat with there back against the wall. Thomas Cornelius walked for the Arsenal leading to Nick Riso going in as a pinch runner. Suddenly the Arsenal were facing to outs and were down to there last strike when Patrick Rogers singled to left. With the Arsenal again facing two out and two strikes Ryan Jurney blasts a single into the outfield scoring pinch runner Nick Riso to tie it up at 3-3. Still facing two outs with Rogers and Jurney on Ryan Ripken steps to the plate. With a 1-2 count Ripken hits a infield chopper to score the game winning run for the Aberdeen Arsenal. Arsenal wins 4-3 with Ripken pitching a complete game. . The Arsenals are headed for the AAU Nationals and the Buzz will go to the Elite 24. Good luck to all!
