2008 14U Baltimore Buzz - TBS #18 Print E-mail

#18 Baltimore Buzz impress at the Elite and throughout 2008

The #18 Baltimore Buzz had a great season and capped it off with a strong finish at the Elite 24.  The Buzz were led by TBS Player to Watch Austin Neary, but there were others who also answered the call.  Austin Neary led the team in hitting for the third straight year with a .528 BA.  He transitioned back to catcher this season, which proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Buzz to be a national contender.  He drove in 8 runs at the Elite, including 3 deep sac fly’s at critical points in the game.

Sam Kmiec was 5-1 as a left handed pitcher vs. TBS top 20 teams this season.  He was the Buzz's top pitcher all season and served as the staff’s work horse.  Kmiec led the Buzz over #16 Team Demarini and the #21 Alabama Storm at the Elite.  He also beat the Mac N Seitz Indians and the HM Indiana Bulls at the Battle in the South.  Earlier in the season, Kmiec put together a strong performance to beat #20 Aberdeen Arsenal and HM NY Gothams in the Northeast Super NIT.  Kmiec’s only loss vs ranked teams came against the Buzz rival, the Aberdeen Arsenal in the AAU State.  In that game, Kmiec suffered the loss due to unearned runs.

Doug Brown, a right-handed pitcher for the Buzz, has been clocked at 84 MPH before.  With Brown’s solid fastball, he served as the Buzz #2 pitcher winning all but 2 starts.  Doug played third base when he wasn't on the mound which proved to be invaluable in the Buzz's top 8 finish at the Elite.  Brown’s key wins came against the NY Gothams and HM 5280 Baseball, not to mention several tournament semifinal wins vs. top local teams.

Shane Campbell, the team’s centerfielder made 5 diving grabs at the Elite to keep the Buzz alive throughout the week.  Campbell had a couple of clutch RBI’s during the tournament.  He had a huge RBI triple in the Buzz’s win vs the HM PBA Diamond Trotters and several other clutch RBI hits.  Shane was a key player for the Buzz all season and their most reliable outfielder.

The Baltimore Buzz had many more players that contributed to their success in 2008 and TBS is excited to watch their continued development and success for years to come.  Congratulations to the Baltimore Buzz for a job well done.
