2008 14U McKinney Marshals Print E-mail

The 14U McKinney Marshals are another power house team coming from a deep North Texas talent pool.  They've been flying below the radar on the national scene as they haven't had to travel very far to get exposed to tough competition with cross town rivals such as the TBS #4 ranked Dallas Tigers and TBS #21 ranked Team DeMarini.  However, when the Marshals did hit the road recently for the Battle in the South, they showed a lot of people that they are for real.  The Marshals did a little more than just hold their own against some of the nation's finest.

This team is no stranger to success on the national scene.  In 2005, the Marshals handily won the 11U Super Series National Division Championship in St. Louis, MO.  They followed that season with a runner up finish at the 2006 12U Division 1 Triple Crown National Championship in Steamboat Springs, CO.  In 2007, the Marshals continued to thrive as they won the 13U AAYBA Platinum Division World Series and took runner up in the 14U age group the week before that.

This season, the Marshals targeted the Battle in the South as the teams' top national tournament as they had the opportunity to face the best of the best from all over the country.  The Marshals went undefeated in their pool hammering out wins against other top TBS ranked teams and earning the #2 seed heading into bracket play.  When the tourney was over, the Marshals posted big wins against the Baltimore Buzz (#20), 5280 Baseball (#16), and the Alabama Storm (#19).  Prior to the start of the tournament, they also had recent wins against the Dallas Tigers (#4) and the Centex Raiders (#7).

The Marshals will conclude their season in Myrtle Beach at the Triple Crown National Championship in late July with players Craig Aikin, Evan Williams, and Robbie Petty patrolling the outfield.  Matt Johnson, Sean McCracken, Dylan May, and Willie Schwanke will hold down the infield.  While Gus Daniel and  Dakota Shadoan will handle the pitching from behind the dish.  The Marshals staff consist of Matthew Contreras, Nixon, and Anthony Hermelyn.

The Marshals are led by California native Brett McCabe and assistant coach Jim Schwanke.  Brett started his coaching career at San Diego State University (SDSU), where his team's broke several records.  From SDSU, Brett was the Head Coach at Augustana College. From AC, McCabe took a job at KU in Lawerence.

Assistant coach Jim Schwanke has made his mark on the game at the collegiate level as well.  Schwanke spent six years as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State learning the hitting techniques from a very good hitting instructor in Gary Ward.  Schwanke has learned the game at a level that few have experienced.  Schwanke also helped coach one of the most prolific offensives in Southeastern Conference history in 1996 with the LSU Tigers, as the team set league records for home runs (131), runs scored (648), RBI (585), and total bases (1,331).
