Where in the world are the Rocky Mountain Steel? Last year at the Elite 24, the Rocky Mountain Steel came out of nowhere to catch a lot of teams off guard on their way to a 5th place finish. This year, the Rocky Mountain Steel will be heading into 2008 with a new name, 5280 Baseball.

If you look a little deeper the Steel’s success last year wasn’t as surprising as some might think. The original Rocky Mountain Steel team earned a birth to what was then the Elite 16 at 11U, but the invitation was declined. At 12U, they were crowned as the Triple Crown World Series Champions. The following year in 2006, the Steel returned to the Elite where they finished in 9th place. John Cronican created and led this original Steel team, but took a year off in 07’. In 2008, Cronican is back and with a new program in 5280 Baseball. This year’s team will consist of 8 returning players from last year’s RMS with the addition of 3 drop down players, 2 of which went to the Elite with last year’s team. Some player’s to watch for 5280 will be Jordan Schlehuber (Colorado Khaos 14U) and Jake Long (Grand Slam 14U). 5280 Baseball 14U plans on attending the KC Super NIT, the Colorado Super NIT, the Battle in the South, and the Triple Crown Summer Nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC.
