13U Elite 24 Update: Hanover Heat - Indiana Prospects Print E-mail

USSSA Baseball Boys 13 & Under Major Elite World Series Bracket Play

No. 17 Hanover Heat 5, No. 20 Indiana Prospects 4

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - A couple of hustle plays propelled the No. 17 Hanover Heat from Ashland, Virginia to a 5-4 victory against No. 20 Indiana Prospects Thursday in bracket play of the 13 & Under Major Elite World Series at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hanover's Josh Plourde scored from first on a throwing error by the third baseman to score the game-winning run. An inning earlier, Plourde's speed on the basepaths confused the opposing shortstop and allowed Steven Brooks to score to tie the game at four.

"That's how he plays," said Heat coach Tom Harrison, referring to the hustle of Plourde. "He never quits and he never stops."

The Heat jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Kenner Berry smacked a 3-run homer. But Indiana clawed back, scoring four runs over the next four innings to take a 4-3 lead.

Harrison was proud of his team. "There was no let-up," he said. "No quit."

Indiana's Austin Sparks went 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBIs. Turner Bishop earned the win for Hanover, throwing three innings.
