13U Update - Elite 24 - Ark-La-Tex Tornado - Florida Xtreme Print E-mail

Ark-La-Tex Tornado 11, Florida Xtreme 7

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- USSSA Elite 24.  In double elimination bracket play, The 15th ranked Ark-La-Tex Tornado jumped out to an early lead and held on to defeat the Florida Xtreme 11-7 Wednesday at the 13 & Under Major Elite World Series at Disney's Wide World of Sports. It was the first round of bracket play. The Tornado play the East Cobb Astros Thursday at 8 a.m. for a chance at the quarterfinals.

The Tornado scored four runs in the second inning, but the Xtreme chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the next five innings.

The Tornado led 8-5 in the top of the seventh when Sheldon Neuse hit a 3-run homer to put the game away -- or so it seemed. The resilient Xtreme then put together a rally in the bottom of the 7th, scoring two runs and loading the bases before the final out was recorded.

Neuse pitched five innings to earn the win. Cameron Burns went 2-for-5 for the Tornado, and Stephen Smith and Ryan Leone each scored twice.

Eugene Vasquez reached base four times and scored twice for the Xtreme.
