13U USSSA Elite 24 World Series - Day 1 Pool Play Rounds

In a day of upsets at the 13U Elite 24, the Rocket City Stingers, a team ranked #2 nationally by TrarvelBallSelect, avoided a possible upset by 3rd ranked Team Anderson with stellar pitching performances by Jackson Stephens, Mark Hernandez, and Victor Cole.  The Stinger pitchers combined to hold Team Anderson to a 3 hit game.   The game was close through the first four innings, when Daniel Robert drove in Mark Hernandez.  Chase Hamilton later drove in an additional 3 runs with a triple to put the game out of reach.  Excellent base running in the final inning (including 2 stolen bases, then scoring on an overthrown ball) by Justin Patterson finished the game.   Tim Lopes scored the only run for Team Anderson with a line drive home run in the top of the first inning.

In other games, the game that was clearly the surprise of the day, the 15th ranked Ark-LA-Tex Tornado battled the top ranked (TX) Bandito Black to a tie.  The Tornado came in this tournament with only four tough losses.  But, all four losses have been to TBS ranked teams. Clearly, their play against the tough Texas teams has prepared them for the tough competition here at Disney.  Garrett Williams went the distance on the mound for Ark-LA-Tex.

Also, the 8th ranked East Cobb Astros surprised a very good RBI Redwings team (ranked 4th nationally) by a score of 7-1.

In other upsets, the 13th ranked (TXS) Banditos Gold beat the 5th ranked MSA Black by a score of 10-4. In other games between TBS nationally ranked teams, the 17th ranked (VA) Hanover Heat beat the 25th ranked Texas Hurricanes 7-3.

In other games, the Atlanta Monarchs (ranked 11th) edged past the 23rd ranked (CA) Cal-Sting, in a squeaker, by a score of 11-10.   This was the closest game of the day in 13U play.

The 9th ranked North Texas Thunder beat the 23rd ranked Lakeview Pirates, the Mississippi State champions, by a score of 8-0. The unranked Louisiana Tigers upset the 14th ranked All American Sports Academy (CA) by a score of 8-1.
