Tournament Results (6/8/08): 13U Dallas Super NIT (Championship Day) The Texas Hurricanes swept their pool play in the 13-and-under division in dominating fashion and received a bonus on Sunday by being the only team in the 15-team field to receive a first-round bye. That might or might not have made a difference, but the Hurricanes were certainly the best team late in the Dallas Super NIT championship game, as they scored six runs in the fifth inning to grab an 11-6 victory over the No. 20 Ark-La-Tex TORNADO! on Sunday night. The Hurricanes earn an automatic bid to the Elite 24 Tournament in Orlando in July. The Hurricanes led 3-1 through three innings before the TORNADO! struck for four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. They responded in the bottom of the frame, getting RBI singles from Jacob Delacruz and Trevor Harper to tie the game. After the TORNADO! scratched across a run in the top of the fifth, the Hurricanes went back to work. Willie Lopez and Camden Cooper singled and Gillispie followed with a double that gave the Hurricanes a 7-6 lead. After Delacruz reached on an error, Davis Szanto blasted a two-run home run way over the fence to make it 10-6. Harper added a RBI on a ground out later in the inning for a five-run lead. Lopez, who came on in relief, did the rest by keeping the TORNADO! bats in check to seal the win.
