13U - Lakeview Pirates (MS)

The 13U Lakeview Pirates from Central Mississippi make their first splash on the national baseball scene next week at the Elite 24 in Disney's Wide World of Sports. The Pirates qualified by finishing second to the Rocket City Stingers (AL, ranked second nationally by TravelBallSelect) in the Championship Game at the Alabama SNIT.

The team sports a 46-8 record and recently won the MS State 13U Major title. They are known to dominate the teams in Mississippi as witnessed at the Governors Cup Tournament in Vicksburg, MS. They were 5-0 and only gave up 3 runs while scoring 48 throughout the tournament. Even with the impressive outings, the Pirates know they have not faced the talent they will see in Orlando, FL next week. According to Randy Rachel, "we may not fit the Elite status but let me tell you, this bunch of kids have heart. They love to play and win, lose or draw they strive to play good ball." The coaches, parents and players will use this tournament as a means to evaluate the program and the development needed to compete on a national level if they choose this path next year.

Regardless of their future direction, these players will be competing next summer together and on into high school. The core of the team have been playing together or against one another since they were eight years old. They are truly recognized as the Boys of Summer in their area. With one more week of Summer Vacation left, they might as well spend it at the Elite World Series doing what they love most - playing baseball.
